Today we heard our first summer migrant bird singing – a Chiff Chaff – and the migrant geese that have been on the east coast all winter have been flying over in huge flocks as they head back to Iceland and Greenland. This particular week of the year is really the only one where the migrant birds from Africa arriving to breed, cross over with the migrant birds we’ve had here for the winter which are now heading off to their northerly homes to breed. The even better thing about this week though, is that we finally know that spring is well and truly upon us!
All three estates are looking magnificent, with the blossom erupting into beautiful displays on the cherry trees at Balnagown, to the early wild flowers adding rare colour to the rugged hills of Invercassley and Duchally.
